Since we can connect directly to the modem why not do that and reduce the possible list of bad parts?
"The "internet activity" light on the modem was red"
Today my comcast internet, TV, phone and all things cable was dead. You wonder if there are dead spots out there.

Hi... my son lost his internet connection after shutting the computer down for the night and rebooting in the AM. He was on the phone with his ISP troubleshooting the problem and they said his connection was good up to the modem. The "internet activity" light on the modem was red when it should be green. They suggested a bad ethernet connection on the computer, so my son bought a new ethernet card and installed it with no problem..it was installed and recognized correctly.Still no connection.. He talked with the Linksys people and after troubleshooting on their end, they think it might be the modem or possibly a bad ethernet card! They are pointing fingers at each other and it's frustrating. He has a Dell with WinXP We thought that there might be a conflict with the new card and the original ehternet connection on the motherboard, but my son says that the old connection has been disabled. Right now he's trying to get a laptop to plug into his connection to see if it's the card or modem Any thoughts?? Thanks
