Lost cell phone insurance

I'll probably resign with Verizon and get a mid-level phone and am wondering if should pay for insurance, which I think is $2 per month.

Lost cell phone insurance

Authorized agents may have differnt insurance plans, but if you go through a corporate store to get a new phone with contract, they only offer the Lockline insurance, and that runs around $4-5 a month. I've been lucky that Verizon hasn't billed me for the service yet, since my bill should be around $50 a month instead of $45 or $46. If you get a phone that's known to have problems, then you'll want to look at the extended warranty, and I think that's about $5 a month, but not sure. With Lockline, that's a plan for where if you lose your phone, or break it, then you get a replacement with a refurbished model of the same model (if available in stock from Lockline). The extended warranty is only good if you're buying a phone that will break down a lot, especially after the manufacturers warranty expires. I haven't bought the extended warranty yet, but was glad I got Lockline, as I cracked the screen on my Samsung a650 around this time last year, and it came in handy. I was lucky Verizon Wireless had a refurbished on in stock, and was on my way that day. Ironically, the refurbished one works better than the old one I got new. The refurbished one has a louder ring and a ear jack that that holds the plug in, where my old phone I got new, the plug on the earpiece wouldn't stay in and the ringer wasn't loud enough at the highest setting.

Can be worth it. Replacement costs are very high

Most people don't realize how much a phone really costs without a contract. If you think there's any chance you'll lose or break your phone, it's worth it.

that mid-level phone might only cost you $75 when you get it for renewing, but odds are that if you lost or damaged it it would cost you full retail price to replace (like $250) if you're in the middle of your contract. That's because they tend to give you a discount at renewal time, which doesn't give you the true sense of how much it'll cost to replace w/o insurance. Insurance is the way to go, I think.
