Authorized agents may have differnt insurance plans, but if you go through a corporate store to get a new phone with contract, they only offer the Lockline insurance, and that runs around $4-5 a month. I've been lucky that Verizon hasn't billed me for the service yet, since my bill should be around $50 a month instead of $45 or $46. If you get a phone that's known to have problems, then you'll want to look at the extended warranty, and I think that's about $5 a month, but not sure. With Lockline, that's a plan for where if you lose your phone, or break it, then you get a replacement with a refurbished model of the same model (if available in stock from Lockline). The extended warranty is only good if you're buying a phone that will break down a lot, especially after the manufacturers warranty expires. I haven't bought the extended warranty yet, but was glad I got Lockline, as I cracked the screen on my Samsung a650 around this time last year, and it came in handy. I was lucky Verizon Wireless had a refurbished on in stock, and was on my way that day. Ironically, the refurbished one works better than the old one I got new. The refurbished one has a louder ring and a ear jack that that holds the plug in, where my old phone I got new, the plug on the earpiece wouldn't stay in and the ringer wasn't loud enough at the highest setting.
I'll probably resign with Verizon and get a mid-level phone and am wondering if should pay for insurance, which I think is $2 per month.
