Lost CD-ROM's driver

Dec 26, 2004 12:09AM PST

I put a old movie to my CD-ROM to play, somehow the movie only show about 5 second, after that the program do not respond. I try to eject the CD out, but it stuck in the CD tray, after that I lost my driver. I have open the tray to get it out manually. Now the Windows do not recognize the driver, and on my device manager do not show the driver either. Would you please show me how to get my driver back. Any help will be appreciate.

Test the drive first.

It could have failed at that moment.

How to test?

Boot any bootable CD in that drive. If you can't boot from the drive, then its dead.

Eject CD

In the front of the CD drive you will find a little hole. Push a straightened paper clip into the hole and it will push open the tray on the CD drive so you can get the CD out.

After doing that Power down and back up and see if it comes back.

Help us out here. . .

How do you play a movie in a CD-ROM?

Is this movie a DVD?

Is it a VCD?

How did you loose the driver, they don't usually just disappear?

What is your OS and version?

Are there any error messages?

Has it worked before?

Without more information all I can tell you is to reformat the hard drive. Just kidding.

Holler back with much more information.

Good luck,

remove the driver
Dec 27, 2004 5:55AM PST

I assume you should first remove the old driver from the control panel system hardware.

Then start up the computer again.
If you say you have a new computer then the computer should automatically find the driver and re-install it for the CD-Rom.

The key is to completely remove the driver associated with the cd ROm drive.
If you are using windows98 or ME you can do this by START_SETTINGS_CONTROL PANEL_SYSTEM_ Device Manager
find the CDROm and remove the driver then shut down and restart.
Your computer if XP has similar removal.
If the CD-Rom is good then the computer will automatic find the driver to re-install.
