Lost C drive

A "friend" just removed Windows ME and then reinstalled it, however it is now only recognizing the CD-RW drive and not the CD Rom Drive. The CD Rom drive will not even open up. Where did it go? How do I get the system to recognize it again?

I ended up disconnecting everything and then reconnecting and it is now recognizing the CD-DVD Drive. Thanks for your help.
