Loss of vobid drive

Jan 12, 2005 1:50AM PST

I run windows xp service pack 1. The problem is that the machine has a sony dvd rom and vobid cd rom, I recently installed a sony dvd rom with cdr/rw thinking i would be able to copy audio and data cds, and now the system does not recognise the vobid drive and consequently audio cds do not play, data cds will load but the vobid drive letter is still not shown in my computer.

Scott, Do You Mean A Vobid 'Virtual' Drive?

...which works like a CD-Rom emulator on your hard drive? If my understanding is correct, it's a portion of a specific CD burning software. As such, it's possible that the software needs to be updated to "recognize" the new Sony drive...I believe the link below should help:

Hope this helps.

Vobid virtual cd drive
Jan 25, 2005 3:12AM PST

I tried the link but couldn't resolve the problem but thanks anyway. The drive is recognised in my computer but when I put an audio cd in the drive it doesn't read it, if i put a data cd in it is picked up by the dvd drive. If you have any other ideas I would like to hear them.

Uninstall, then reinstall the Vobid software...

I have also had problems with the software that Sony provides with their drives...They restrict a lot of burning activity that other software does not. It's possible that it's such an issue with your situation as well. The audio CD recognition in the Vobid drive may be prevented because of the software limitations. Have you tried uninstalling the Vobid software and reassociating the music CD files to be played with a media player like WinAmp or Windows Media Player?

Hope this helps.

Loss of cd drive

Check on the burner that you installed to see if it is master or slave. (should be jumper on lower rear of drive near IDE plug in) make sure it is set for the proper setting for your system. If you replaced another cd look on the old one and see where it was set.
Good luck Al
