by Seeds0215 / June 28, 2006 1:09 AM PDT

i am running Microsoft Windows XP home edition with what used to be Service Pack 1, and everything was fine with it, but windows update had me install service pack 2, when i did, it had me restart, and absolutly no sound works, not even system sounds, i tried updating the drivers and everything and i can't get it to work. Any Help?

Microsoft and drivers.

Microsoft is not where we get drivers from. I wonder if you installed a driver from Microsoft or a Driver Update button. This is when I see items stop working. Maybe someday Microsoft will be taken to task for this area but for now and just like the past decades the drivers are best obtained from the makers of your machine.

You write:

So you did not install the drivers. Also I see no words that lead me to believe you checked at Dell.com for latest motherboard and sound drivers. It appears you need to accomplish this task or find someone to do it for you.

As to wipe the HDD, that's another bad sign. Did you just reveal that when the HDD vanishes, you aren't ready?
