"How to Locate and Correct Disk Space Problems on NTFS Volumes in Windows XP (Q31568
."
I installed Win XP Media Center Edition in December with a 47GB harddrive. After installing software, the harddive understandably went down to 35GB. In three months, I'm down to 17 GB for no apparent reason. I run cleaner programs, disk cleanup and defrag weekly. All temp files, and Media Center's TiVo, are placed on separate drives. My swap file is on only this C drive and the operating system is being allowed to regulate it. I've never knowingly backed up the drive, so there shouldn't be excessive space taken by any BAK files. I do have several restore points that have been stored, but can't believe that would account for losing 18 GBs. Anyone have any ideas? (FYI, Windows is taking 2.5GB, Programs are taking 10-12GBs and Documents and Settings 11GB). Again, where the remaining 18 GBs would be going is what I'm interested in.
