Their issue may not be your issue but here goes. Their Compaq v2030us laptop (notice how I share details?) had a failing wifi card inside. We lucked out in that they had an open PC-Card slot so we installed another wifi card there and left the internal disabled.
Update-> Since this worked so well we opened up the laptop to remove the card we don't use anymore.
Now there are some that would insist that the internal card be fixed, replaced but this is a 5 year old laptop. The PC-Card was 20 bucks (including shipping) and we are done.

...to connect to the internet, have you tried checking the computer manufacturer's website for an updated wireless driver?
A little more information would sure help.. Are there other computers on the network and do they work fine? If not, have you tried testing one to see if it has the same symptoms?
Is the network YOUR network? And if so, what type of wireless router are you using? Is it a combo router which includes the router and modem? Or is the router a separate unit? Have you tried turning off the router for 10 minutes, then restart the router, wait for a couple minutes for it to reinitialize, then restart the computer again?
Hope this helps and let us know more.

When this happens, are you ?actually? losing your internet connection or is the icon simply saying that you do? I?ve seen it both ways where the actual program that creates the icon animation is malfunctioning and saying that there is no connection when there actually is.
This can narrow things down.
Cheers,
Ron
