Losing Mouse

I have a Dell Dimension E520 Desktop with Windows XP sp2. My old mouse was having trouble so I put another mouse on it. It's a Microsoft Wired optical (not new). Now I keep loosing the cursor and find it stuck in a corner and have to bump the mouse to release it. I'm getting used to lifting the mouse and tapping it down. Computer problem or Mouse? I can live with it, but thought maybe it could be a simple fix?
