1. Latest router firmware.
2. Router defaults.
3. WPA wifi security.
I rarely do much beyond that and the routers are fine.
I just replaced a Netgear WGR614 router with a brand new D-Link DIR-615. Setup went fine, and connections on our mix of desktops and laptops seem to be okay, except for my laptop. I have a Toshiba A505 running Vista Home Premium x64, connected via 802.11n, and I will randomly have the "globe" icon disappear from the network icon in the tray, and I will be limited only to local network access. Disconnecting and reconnecting solves it (usually by flipping the wireless switch), but it will eventually drop again. I've checked settings on both the router and my laptop, but cannot figure this out. I never had this problem before and on other routers. When it's connected, Internet works great, as is access to local devices. Any ideas?
