Los Angeles County bans kinky computing!

Nov 21, 2003 6:03AM PST

From the "OK, we'll call them the 'number 1' and 'number 2'" files: L.A. County bans the use of the terms "master" and "slave" to describe PC hard drives:

One such recent example included the manufacturer's labeling of equipment where the words ''Master/Slave'' appeared to identify the primary and secondary sources. Based on the cultural diversity and sensitivity of Los Angeles County, this is not an acceptable identification label.

We would request that each manufacturer, supplier and contractor review, identify and remove/change any identification or labeling of equipment or components thereof that could be interpreted as discriminatory or offensive in nature before such equipment is sold or otherwise provided to any County department. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and assistance.

Should we next expect that the term "hard drive" will somehow be seen as offending someone as well? Sheesh!

Actually, Tony, I just came up with the answer!

Buy all new computers with Serial ATA. Since SATA doesn't have to designate multiple hard drives as master snd slave, that should solve the issue of making PC's PC in L.A. The cost, however, may generate another issue...

Making PCs PC in LA on the QT..........

Yeah Paul, that would fix 'em.Only Serial ATA to be sold in LA County.

I suspect that would shoot the price of Dell's $499 computer straight to hell though.

I'm waiting for idiotic thinking like that to trickle down to the automotive world when I do my next Tacoma clutch ;=)

...but at least one other site is also banned. After all, how can you possibly be allowed to go to any site that displays so much enthusiasm that it's called Yahoo! ?

Come to thing about it, Google sounds a little off-color as well, so that also needs to go...
