loosing volume control icon on task bar

by FpLiOnYkD / February 28, 2007 9:02 PM PST

I keep loosing the volume contron icon in the task bar.

If I uncheck the "place volume control icon on task bar", click apply, then recheck "place volume control icon on task bar", it works. However, when I reboot, the icon is gone. When I check in the control panel, sound and properties, the box is still checked, but the icon is gone. I have tried rebooting, no luck. I restored the computer to an earlier time and I got the icon, but upon reboot, no icon. (volume box still checked). I have scanned for viruses, and there are none. Also scanned for spyware and all is well. I have installed no new software or made any other adjustments to my computer. I am the only one who uses it.

Any ideas on how to fix this problem is appreciated.

Once you have the Volume icon showing have you tried this possible fix?

Tip: Volume Control disappears in the Notification Area. Once present, run this edit.

Save Settings on Exit (Line 54)

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it and answer yes to the import prompt.

Also if you right click your Taskbar, choose Properties, under the Taskbar tab click the Customize button hilite the Volume icon and use the dropdown arrow button and set it to Always Show, click OK/Apply/OK.

That did not work. I may have a bigger problem than I first thought. After going into msconfig, looks likeother icons are not coming up in the taskbar either. Also, when I try to change the Startup options in msconfig, I get an access denied error. Says I need to sign on as admisistrator. I am the admisistrator. I am puzzled. Thanks for you help.

I did another system restore and it appears to have worked this time. I have rebooted twice, and so far so good. We will see if it lasts.

I will check out the HP site and see what they have to say.

thanks for the help!!

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
