Loose video and keyboard after sleep mode

Nov 6, 2010 5:20PM PDT

The computer goes to sleep after 20 minutes. Actually I stepped it up to 10 minutes. When I do a mouse click it wakes up most of the time. Sometimes after sitting all night or for a couple of hours it may not wake up the way it should. The computer does wake up, the power supply and processor fan comes alive. However there is no signal to the monitor and the keyboard does not work. I'm pretty sure windows loads but I have no visual reference.

I checked the event log. There is a kernel error but that shows an improper shut down. Its there because I have to power down, the reset button does not function. It does normally but not after the above problem.

I updated the AMD graphics card -- HD 5600 series but not sure yet if it made a difference. I have no clue about the keyboard. I have had the problem with 2 different units. The Gigabyte mother board might be at fault but with their service I thought I'd try here first. It is Win 7 64 bit I built about 8 months ago. Problems started about 3 months ago. Any thoughts?

Thanks, Rod

There are a few clues in your post.

And I've seen this happen when owners accept drivers from Microsoft or Windows Update. The lesson on that can be re-stated by others.

Let's try the following. I'll leave finding the Gigabyte site to you but the driver I would reinstall is the motherboard chipset drivers from Gigabyte.

Good luck,
Bob

I tried that but no smiley face

I reinstalled the chip set drivers over the top because I had no idea of how to uninstall first. My USB Gigabyte keyboard failed this morning when I woke up the computer. I used a mouse click to do that, perhaps I should try using the keyboard instead. So far no problem with a signal to the monitor.

All hardware drivers are from the MFG. I never use MS for those updates. However the keyboard driver is from MS. I read where many win 7 users experience problems when the computer wakes up. Supposedly this may be a MS bug in win 7? Any other ideas are appreciated.

Just sharing.

I have a desktop with a MS keyboard. I did not install a driver. I've found keyboard drivers from MS and Logitech to be troublesome.
