Not when that idiotic updater give you only 4 updates, but I turned it off as useless piece of garbage. I have ben given the run around microsoft. I had downloaded at it to update since I haven't got genuine advantage which I have had countless times?? Want $99 for a genuine advantage and an uppate to Vista is $99 dollars, Well, most IT's I've met said: "Don't buy Vista!"!! I click on the checkmark to talk to a person and I get and idiotic answering machine!! I cannot believe that MICROSOFT People are so ignorant! Well, I will saving up my money for MAC. So if anyone out there needs my help, call microsoft, I won't be helping them anymore. Darrell PS - This my LAST Post here.

helping posts over the years. I guess w/ a Mac to learn, you'll be pretty busy playing catch up, getting to know new boards & friends
there.

I well feel your repeated frustrations w/ MS. After enough of the same I gave up updating using their products & count on disabling those not needed/used & relying on reliable 3rd party products instead.

Funnily enough, I don't seem to be subject to any more (even less ?) attacks than those patched constantly.

My daughter with same basic XP Pro SP1, which she has never applied EVEN 1 patch to EVER, only gets attacked about 1 time per year which she cleans up easily. Adding insult to injury, her applications & programs still all function as intended (well)! Go figure!!

Having been tasked to maintain a Vista Basic Home, I've avoided patches awaiting SP1. Still learning OS so not ready for daily/weekly changes. Think of us when you can (we poor sods)!

At least, when more & more attack apps appear for Mac, you'll be ahead of the pack for at least being able to know what they are & having some idea of what to do about it. Many of my Mac people still have trouble believing that such things can even exist (Bootcamp for them, LOL)! Fare well old friend! Sandy Cry

to resolve this delimma. I wish I could remember his name but the others wantd to send me somewhere else, etcetera. I even contacted my ISP and asked if they could support WIN98SE, not only that but WIN98, Windows 2000 and I had a legitimate CD and I may add, Feb 2004 Security Updates. Saw tat 30 days to activate and explained that I have been thru this four times already in one night. He knew exactly what to do. Put in your old registration number and a different set of numbers showed up! So he gave me a,b,c,d,e,f & g the six numbers in each box!!
That man is a very smart person. Only 100 updates (not finished yet!) and I was 1/2 awake and 1/2 asleep so I had a hard time with that. My tendonitis and arthritis wasn't any help in my hands.
Thee only that still bothers me is why I got only one update after the first four with both SP1 & SP2?? Since the updater is useless, the original has been deleted and Windows Security Alerts is off - neither did a thing and I all the work. Plan on finding the other and it is history. Right now it just sits and is red-faced So I just ignore it. Darrell

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
