Looking to purchase laptop as secondary computer

Sep 14, 2004 1:48PM PDT

As a student I feel that I can definately use a second computer to take with me to class. I've often wanted a computer with me on campus, to do homework and research, surf the net, check email, take notes, etc.... Right now I'm leaning toward a Dell Latitude D600 for several reasons: it's is very light-weight for the power it provides, a longer than average battery life, and I recieve a HUGE discount through my school (several hundred dollars).

However, I've been seeing more and more good things about tablets and table convertables. I very much like the tablet convertable idea, and I was interested to see if anyone had any ideas/recommendations about these computers. If I bought a convertable, I would like it to have an internal optical drive and still be rather lightweight. Price is not a factor yet.

Also, if I were to get a notebook instead, are there any good light-weight wide-screen ones?
