looking to organize and streamline photo files..

by danababy107 / January 28, 2010 4:28 AM PST

i have a new imac, and during the past few months of backing up files on my pc, i wound up with insane amounts of dupe files. does anyone know of a program that will organize them according to exif data (the file names aren't reliably organized). i'd like to have the pics organized strictly by date/time taken, not by file name.

iPhoto

iPhoto can reorganize your photos by date and time taken, by geocoding and also by person. If you took a picture of say, Nancy, and you have a bunch more photos of her that show her face, iPhoto will use face recognition software built into the application to allow you to find all photos of Nancy, including the ones with Dave. Then you can train it to find all photos of Dave that show his face.

This kind of use of iPhoto to organize is one of its main strengths.
