Looking to buy a new TV

Aug 14, 2005 2:26PM PDT

Initially just wanted a plasma TV. After visiting Best Buy, Fry's, Circuit and a local spot I now know that I have 3 options.

LCD, plasma and DLP

For me it seems that it will be between DLP and plasma. I am looking for something between 37-50". I am looking to spend under $5K total, including warranty.

I have read a few online things and a few threads here.

I plan on going back to bother someone at Best Buy in the very near future, but will probably not buy a TV for at least another month.

Any suggestions would be great.

Definately Plasma. If you are sitting directly in front of a DLP the picture gets dark. Plasma gives you a beautiful picture and the price fits right into your budget.

just don't go to best buy or circuit city. Those guys could care less if they help you out or even know what the hell the are talking about. I would go to fry's instead of them

In the same boat

After hours of research I determined that the best bet in the 42'' HDTV for around $2000 category was a Panasonic plasma TV. My husband went to our local high end electronics retailer (Sound Advice) to negotiate the price and they convinced him that he was better off with a 46'' Samsung DLP. I'm back on the net trying to confirm or deny what he was told. It seems that DLP reviews usually consider only 50'' or larger models. In that size range they out perform LCD's. I have read that LCD's out perform DLP's when considering smaller sizes(around 20''). It seems there is a grey area regarding the in between sizes. My guess is that I should stick with plasma. Any advice?
