Looking for very specific requirements

Sep 28, 2005 7:05AM PDT

I am looking for a camera with the following requirements:

>4 Mega pixels
Image Sensor: CCD
Still Image Format: JPEG
Compression Modes: Normal, Fine
Flash
LCD size 2.5? min
USB/Firewire interface

Lens
Digital Zoom: 6 X or better (not so important)
Optical Zoom: 3 X or better (most important)
Focus Type: Center AF, Manual
Min. Focus Range: 24 in
Min. Macro Focus Range: 3 in

I have found a few with some of the requirements but not all. Anyone have any recommendations?

Narrow the list.

Since you have firewire on the list, start with the list of cameras that have that. It will make the list short so you can finish your research in about 10 minutes.

Specific Requirements

I could find no camera with the specifications you listed.

If I just looked for:
CCD and Firewire
I come up with only 4 cameras.
3 of those are DSLR and cost over $1,000 without a lens.

Firewire is often found on camcorders
and seldom found on digital cameras.

I suggest you remove firewire from your list of requirements.

If you remove firewire from you list,
here are the cameras that meet most of your specifications:

Canon S80
Casio Z55 and Z57
Olympus SP500
Panasonic LX1
Pentax S5Z and S45 and S55
Sony W1, W5, W7, T1 and H1

Firewire is pointless on DigiCam unless video

What you really need to be looking for is... USB 2.0 I have a Canon DigiRebel XT and I can transfer, when full, my 1 Gb compact flash card in less than 3 minutes with usb 2.0 (just a thought)

ps if your computer does not have usb 2.0 you can buy a pci slot usb 2.0 for about 20-30 bucks. All you do is open the case drop the usb 2.0 port in place and replace the computer cover. If you have windows XP you are good to go.
