It appears you are looking for better backup and restore software.
Outside of the Apple TimeMachine which is great if you have an Apple machine running the Apple OS, I have yet to find something that you will like.
The current state of backup and restore of the library you noted on WINDOWS is nothing short of amazing. Amazingly bad. Only trekies seem to love this.
Maybe the device to get is the Apple and their system?

I am not a tekkie, as will be evident...I am looking for an external hard drive that will be exclusively used to backup my iTunes library.
I had been using a WD Essentials drive. My hard drive was cleaned up and re-imaged, and when I tried to restore the iTunes files from the WD drive, the process kept telling me that quite a few files were not able to be restored.
Also, it changed the file extensions to .dbm (or something like that). I went online and discovered this is a file extension that is used in the medical records industry. I didn't want to explore that any further.
Fortunately, I also have an online backup service and was able to restore my library that way, but I'd like to terminate that contract to save $ and just use an external hard drive as backup.
Can someone please recommend a device that will restore my files easily, without my having to spend hours researching a new file extension or some other BS?
Thank you.
