Looking for Toshiba gigabeat software

Jan 6, 2005 11:52AM PST

Hi,

I've just bought a Toshiba Gigabeat F20 in Tokyo, and I've just found out that it can operate only with japanese Windows environment. And my PC operates with english windows (I'm not japanese). Big problem ! I'm unable to install the software to download music on my player. I've asked Toshiba but I'm still waiting for their answer.
I wonder why the Toshiba software is blocking on the Windows language. Is there a way to overcome this ?
Does anyone have a solution ? Also, I would be very thankfull if anyone knows a contact with Toshiba speaking english.
Thanks,
Benedicte

Possible Solution...
Jan 6, 2005 2:20PM PST

I have just stumbled accross what looks to be a possible solution.

Accourding to this site, you can use some microsoft software to allow your PC to run the Japanese software even though your not really. I guess as an emulator of sorts.

Anyway, I'm working on getting it to work and will update you if I have any success down this route.

Just to share the joy... I have eventually got the Gigabeat Room software working. It took quite a bit of stuffing around but got it going in the end. In short what you need to do is:

* Change all your regional settings from control panel to Japan & Japanese (required original Windows XP cd, and I think only possible in XP Professional - maybe).
* Restart
* Install the Gigabeat Room software off the CD.
You should be able to launch the app now, but your whole windows environment will be in Japanese.
* Change all your regional setting back to English & Australia (or U.S. or wherever your from)
* Restart
* Install the nifty Microsoft "AppLocale" utility - this allows you to run Gigabeat room in Japanese within your normal English Windows.
* probably another restart
* Right click on the Gigabeat Room icon and launch using the "Locale Japanese" option. And vala.. I works!! :o)

Toshiba Audio Application - installation instructions. Even though this is for different software it is the same process and very helpful.

Great !

This is amazing the things and advices we can find on internet ! It's great that you finally succeeded to install your files without waiting, like me, after Toshiba customer service, which seems completely overflowed or completely asleep... Considering how many emails and fax I sent them already and still no answer, not even a "thank you we received your question and are processing it now".
I have to wait and look for more info because my version of Windows is Me and not XP... I will contact the guy at the GREAT website you tip me, and ask him directly. Actually, I'm trying my gigabeat at a japanese friend's house.
It was nice talking to you,
enjoy your Gigabeat,
Benedicte
