Question

Looking for specific software

Mar 19, 2015 6:11PM PDT

Hello,

For a school project I have to look for a web-based application that can be used for a non-profit company. It is my task to set up the program so that it will fit their needs. However I have had problems finding software that more or less offers the things I need so I thought I might as well ask on this forum to see if anyone knows of some (preferably free) software.

Let me explain the case for a moment:
It's a non-profit company in which 7 people should have access to a database through a web-based application, this database contains 4 tables: Students, Volunteers, Families and Events. The goal of this project is to put the company away from all the paperwork and make everything digital, so the data should be editable and readable and there should be 2 different user rights, one that can do everything and one that can only read. If there would be a calendar it would be great too but it's not necessary.

So basically I need some sort of database / CRM kind-of software but I haven't found anything that is really what I need. Help would be much appreciated! Happy

Are you sure the assignment is to find an existing program and install it? Or is it to design and write it from scratch?
That's quite something else.

Yes

Positive, the goal of this project is to make something that does not require me to program something from the ground up, but to search for software that more or less gives me the functionality that I need. It is only in the last case scenario I am allowed to program something myself. I guess you could consider the project more about analyzing rather than programming Happy

Then it's clear that you don't have to find it.

The assignment is to search for this. If there is none then the report is the there is no such thing in the channels you searched and that it needs to be made. Also you are the searcher so it would be unfair if others did that for you. That is, homework and assignments are done by the student.

That's the main reason I put a question on this forum. I've done a lot of research for open-source software and have come up empty handed, I'd like to know suggestions of others who might know more about this domain than I do and if there are none then so be it. I can write a website myself as well, although I'd like to know that I've explored all other options before continuing.

Then that's the result.

Remember the assignment is to search. It's not assumed you will find this system. It's all about the student doing the work and if this does come up empty then you move your report to how such could be created. Remember that having others do your assignment isn't the assignment.
