Question

Looking for some suggestions

Oct 25, 2012 7:27AM PDT

I am currently in the market for a tablet and I am looking for a few suggestions.

• I'd like one that has between a 7"-10" screen.
• A USB port is a must.
• Android OS.
• SSD would be a plus but it's not required.
• Wi-Fi
• HDMI
• Bluetooth
• Middle level CPU and GPU.

My final area of concern deals with quality. I don't want to pay the money for a system that is going to fail me in one way or another after a few months. My price range is between $400 and $500. So anyone have any suggestions?

Clarification Request
Given that many have microSD slots

And the usual 32GB microSD card is "solid state" and looks like a drive, does that fit that requirement?

Why I ask is your list makes me think you have never used an Android tablet but are thinking this is something like a Windows machine. Those folk usually feel burned about this as nothing works out for them.

I don't have a lot of experience with tablets tbh. I've played around with a Samsung galaxy tab and an Ipad v. 2. My smartphone has a droid operating system so that particular OS isn't all that foreign to me.

I don't much care for sd cards as they tend to get lost most of the time. Like I said, SSD isn't mandatory, however it is a plus.

I realize there are many other aspects to tablets however I just marked down those areas that I consider important. In any case I am looking for some suggestions.

So SD Card is not SSD?

Since I think you said you don't want that, there are no Android tablets I see today with SATA connected SSD media.

Case closed?

semantics?

While I might be wrong, is it possible that the OP is merely saying that he'd rather have a lot of internal memory instead of an SD card? That would certainly meet his requirements even if there's actually no separate SATA-based SSD.

I hope they can clear that up.

If you experienced what happened on another large internal memory tablet you might not say that's a good solution. The new tablet with its new OS version treated the larger memory as a new type of space and some apps needed updates.

Feels like Windows all over again.

Answer
Windows RT or Windows 8Pro
Oct 27, 2012 4:05PM PDT

I have an android phone that is fine, but I have an android tablet I hate. It's just not that easy to navigate, and software and system stuff seem to end up anywhere, making it hard to track them down.

If you are buying a tablet now or in the next 6 months, consider a Windows 8Pro (though reviewers seem to like the RT too). With Win8Pro, it will have all the features of regular Windows, plus tablet features too. Yes, I know it does not have many apps yet, but they'll come pretty fast....

Btw here is one of many complaints about my Android tablet - I like to read PDF books, and have tried oodles of PDF readers, but can't find one with all the features I take for granted when I read PDF books on my 10" Win7 netbook. Also my tablet does not like PDF books over 10MB even though I have an SD card. Am waiting for the Windows Pro tablets to come down in price - maybe in the spring.... Good luck with your search.
