Looking for new camera

Apr 26, 2005 3:43AM PDT

I really didn't want to add another "what camera I should buy" thread but I need help. I am looking to spend around $300 on a new digital camera, my old one a Fuji Finepix 2400Zoom doesn't do what I would like to do now.

What I am looking for is a camera with at least 4mp, 10x optical zoom and almost no shutter lag. I want to take sport picks, mainly my boys playing soccer. I know at $300 I won't get a high end camera that probably meets my needs but I've been looking at the Fuji S5100. The shutter lag seems acceptable but the camera doesn't have image stabilization and I'm not sure it is a good idea to get a 10x zoom camera with out the image stabilization.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Update to my own post

I noticed after doing more searching on this forum that another camera was recommended for actiona shots, the Minolta Z3...the price is around the price I'm looking at especially if I pick up a refurb. one online. Is this a good camera?

Thanks again.

Konica Minolta Z3

The Z3 would be a good choice.

It will be good for action shots.
It has a very short shutter lag (that's good).
It has several burst modes when you can machine-gun a series of shots. (really nice on actions shots).

If you shop carefully, you can find it for about $320 (new).
