You won't go far wrong if you go for the big three, Canon, Panasonic and Sony. Then you need a budget to work against.
Most modern camcorders use SD cards so a computer and a reader are a must. ( the camera will act as a reader through a USB link) You will need a Class 10 SD card, 32Gb is adequate.
Action cams are good for action BUT not much good for general filming, so for everyday use go for a normal camcorder.
When it comes to camera choice, we all have our favourites, I started with a Canon HV20 with a tape but now have Panasonic cameras. The first was the HC-V700 bought three years ago and, this year, the HC-V750. You need to consider what you want the camera for:- Family filming - most units will do, Wildlife - a good optical zoom 40x or better plus the electronic zoom to take it to about 90x, external mic socket and headphone socket are useful. Then the "extras", the V750, for example, has slow motion filming, useful for sports, and time lapse for watching weeds grow!
So a "tick list" of what you would want can come in very useful.
