You need more RAM and better CPU

Since you'll need a more powerful CPU, you'll also need a new motherboard and RAM. Likely a new GPU as well. I believe you'd be better off buying a new PC with something like an I5 processor.

Good luck.

I would limit myself to the usual.

The usual is an ATI 5450 (or 6450) Video card with the usual 1GB RAM. But since anything better than this would have us changing power supplies, motherboard, OSes and more, I strongly suggest you try this and get games to run albeit at reduced settings.

To see what a gamer wants is well, in the second link but most get by with this one:

To see what I see gamers clamor for, watch this dual titan ultrawide screen video:

Hope this helps,

Do you have a budget?
Aug 20, 2013 2:13PM PDT

Do you have a budget for the upgrade? Confused
See, there are lots of ways to approach this. Personally, I first determine the use, then the budget. In your case, you know you're going to play games (awesome, I'm a gamer), but you don't have a budget in mind...which makes things a bit tricky.

That being said, you have lots of options, there are lots of gaming machines out there you can get (I'm referring to pre-built rigs). So make sure to check out top manufacturers sites (AMD, Intel, NVIDIA, etc). These companies partner with 3rd party vendors and offer some pretty good deals, just look for their "Shop now" or "Help me build my PC" links. I'm pretty sure you can find gaming rigs for about $800.00 to $900.00. (These systems will come ready to fire up, complete with CPU, GPU, Mem, PSU, Motherboard, etc.)

On the upgrading only front, when I upgrade my PC(s) I normally change the following: CPU,GPU, and Memory - note, just upgrading these parts may cost you about $400.

About memory, try to get 8 or 16GB. Obviously 16GB will give you better performance.

About the OS, from a gamers p.o.v. stick with Win7-64bit

Hope this helped a bit. Grin
