Question

Looking for good macro, video camera under $300

Dec 29, 2014 1:42PM PST

Hello,

I'm in the market for a camera that can take HD video as well as good macro photos. I need something with manual focus and high enough resolution to print the results, while also being capable of shooting HD video for more than ~10 minutes at a time.

I'd be happy with an older camera, as long as it fulfilled these needs. My maximum budget is around $300 but ideally I'd like to spend ~$200. I'm open to refurbished or used cameras if necessary to get within my price range.

Does anyone have recommendations for cameras that would work for me?

Thanks so much!

Sorry, I should have mentioned; I currently have a Canon Powershot ELPH 300HS. I've had it for a few years and it works decently for me, but I'm looking to upgrade. Particularly, I'd like to have manual control of focus because I often struggle to get the autofocus to behave for my macro photography. The quality it gives is also borderline in terms of selling prints of my photography sometimes, though the close-focus functionality itself is good. I was hoping that, by sticking with used or refurbished older models I could break into a higher category of camera (maybe something with a dedicated macro lens even) but I'm not sure if my budget warrants that.

Thanks again for any advice!

I can't think of any one camera (new or used) that will provide the things you desire for less than $300.
A dedicated macro lens alone will cost you $300.
