Looking for good DVD+R to record programs from Tivo 2-Series

Aug 23, 2005 5:47AM PDT

I have an older Panasonic TV, and a Tivo 2-Series set up to record direct from wall-unit cable (no cable box). The Tivo 2-Series is networked through a router, and I also have a 150GB external hard drive. I would like to be able to record programs that I record using my Tivo so I can remove it from my ''Now Playing'' list, but keep it for future viewing. Does anyone have any suggestions for a good (not too expensive) DVD+R recorder that I could use for such purposes? Alternatively, does it make more sense to try to set up my network to record my Tivo programs onto my external hard drive? Is this even possible to do without a PhD in CS?

Site with a lot of DVD Recorder Info

Look on avsforum in the DVD Recorder forum under the Video Components group. Here is the link:

Note that folks over there tend to be rough on newbies that ask questions before searching. Also, they tend to be fairly picky crowd and therefore will point out even the most minute problem in every product. However, I find the information accurate and insightful.

I have a DirecTV tivo and I know that the video data on it is encrypted preventing you from copying the digital data directly. Therefore, you have to use the analog outs to record to VHS or DVD. I think the standalone TiVos are the same.
