Looking for good camera for continous shooting

May 24, 2005 2:49AM PDT

of sports. When I read about the Kodak 6940, it says '3 fps up to 6 shots'. Does that mean I press the button, get 6 pictures over 2 second period? Then I have to press again?

I hear good things about the D70 in terms of continous shooting. I'd like something that is fast and without limit except the memory, 4 mega pixels and above, and around $500. D70 is 899 w/o lens. I'm not that IN to photography.

What about the PowerShot S2 IS? THanks

camera to analyize my kids' baseball swings and pitching mechanics. Looking for something quick and continous.

I'll look at the $899 and above if 1/3200 shutter and 2.4 fps of the S2 IS won't do the above.

thnx

Continuous Shooting

Many cameras have burst modes. As long as you hold down the shutter button it will take a predetermined number of photos.

Some have a special version of this, where you hold down the button and it will only retain the last 5 or 6 shots.

But all of these camera will take a burst and then you will have to wait for the camera to process the results, before you can take more shots.

I saw an example of a camera that was taking continuous photos for a few minutes. It played back like a movie at about 3 frames per second. Very interesting to watch and the photos were outstanding.
It was from a Canon 20D DSLR camera ($1,500).

You will not find that kind of performance for $500.

For analyzing baseball swings, you should consider using a camcorder. You can find those for $500.

The Nikon D70 supposedly can capture up to 144 images continuosly at a pretty good rate. It is a bit more expensive than you might be willing to pay though. There is a $100 rebate right now for that camera with the kit lens, which helps a little bit... I don't know of any cameras around the $500 mark that can take more than a handful of pictures in rapid succession without having to wait for a few seconds while they are processed.
