General discussion

looking for first cheap mp3 player

Jan 27, 2005 6:06AM PST

I have been searching. My wife gave me one from Target, but said feel free to return it. I think it was $79 or so, it's an audiovox and I can't find any info online. i did find some alternatives:

best buy has MPIO 128 and 156 for $79 and $99
circuit city has creative muvo n200 for $89
Walmart has the muvo n200 for $97 (in a few colors)and they also have their own brand ilo 256 for $79 (this is built by raveMP, from what I can tell)
Fry's has EnCross for $79

Any thoughts?

I'd say your best bet would be to go for the Creative Muvo N200. Sound and build quality is tops and simplicity of use is great. Personally I own an Mpio FL100 256mb but the N200 would be more user friendly as the Mpio has some software issues (N200 requires no software in XP/2000). I recommend getting at least a 256mb unit as this capacity can generally hold 60 mp3 songs.

Recommendation

I'd recommend an CD/MP3 player. I've seen ones made by Sony that cost about $70 and include ripping software. They play standard CDs, MP3s, and ATRAC files.

ilo mp3

I only have tried the ilo 256. It seems like a great little player with many extras.

FM radio, voice recorder, expandable memory, very adequate display that shows all the important stuff, good battery life, no additional software needed to run it (although some users may have to install the drivers).

I think a person should really not buy anything less than 256mb. The really nice thing about this player is that it will support up to 512 additional mb's of memory (total of 768mb). Firmware updates may allow for the memory to be expanded by 1gig.

Firmware updates are also supposed to fix another problem with the ilo 256. It only wants to recoginize 130 songs at a time. So if you have more than 130 songs installed, it won't play them all. We'll see what comes of this.

All in all, for the price this is a very good mp3 player. Probably the cheapest one out there with all of the above mentioned options. My family has three of them.

Good Luck!

I bought the ilo

I actually did end up getting the ilo- it was BY FAR the best deal for a 256 flash player, plus the expansion capabilities. FM works well- I'm very happy with it.

I am confused on how to upgrade my ilo. I have one, and I like it, I do not have a radio on my motorcycle, so it works great....I just want to know how I can upgrade my ilo to hold more music...I am kinda illiterate at this, so descriptive directions would be great...e-mail me at musky_hunter_69@yahoo.com

SO please help me out...
