Looking for advice in decent $500 camcorder

Nov 24, 2010 1:07AM PST

I have a MiniDV camcorder with 720 x 480 resolution that worked well before I got an HDTV. Now the poor video quality is evident. Have looked at HD camcorders with internal HD, SSD or SDHD cards and 1080 resolution in the $500 range. Read the CNET "Buyers and Quick Guides" and have a few questions.

The review said several factors besides resolution affect video quality but did not say what to look for. Need help with selecting lense, sensor dynamic range, compression, especially with SDHD cards, low LUX specs and SSD capacity. Review said SSD were low capacity but found a 32GB SSD HD will record 12 hours of video, enough for me.
