Question

Looking for a super cheap music streaming device

Sep 26, 2015 7:15AM PDT

hi,
I need to put music in the back space of my house. I'm looking for a tablet or ipod that has wireless connectivity and can install apps like Pandora. I am looking used.. since the point here is it's ONLY going to be used to stream music to a speaker that only has audio ports. It needs to be small too to tuck or stick behind the speaker. speaker is an old amp I want to make use of.

I was looking at 7th generation ipod nanos. they currently sell on ebay for around $60. price is right. but can I install Pandora on there? Does it have good wireless capability? and does it have audio connection to directly plug into speaker.

Is there anything else out there that might serve as well?

tx for any help!
billy

I believe it has Pandora and more. I use mine to stream my Amazon Prime collection and it has a great screen and audio jack. Very well built tablet.

Look around. Do you have an old smartphone?

Smartphones, Android ones have been out for years now. Someone in your family or circle likely has an old android phone. Ask for it and repurpose it because you don't need a cell plan to use it to run the Pandora app.
Note: Corrected spelling.

nano?
Sep 26, 2015 3:07PM PDT

don't have any working smartphone.. usually are completely broken before buying another. so would need to buy that off ebay or somewhere cheap too. I understand that would be the cheapest solution though.. but what about original question? can the nano do what I need? tx

Answer
Grab a used iPod Touch, but not from ebay

(still) way too much crap being sold there IME.

I suggest a site such as Glyde, where I see prices hovering in the $50 range for a 4th gen iPod Touch. Might make more sense for you to find a more recent model that can at least handle iOS 7 IME. The update for many of the streaming apps from iOS 6 to 7 was more significant than the switch from iOS 7 to 8 (or 9). Better support for things like Airplay, etc. YMMV.

Just get at least a 16GB version, since the 8GBs fill up too fast(!)
