That depends on so much things, that it's impossible to say in general. Two things you shouldn't do: selling fridges in Greenland or selling snowboots in Brazil, even if you are a very good salesperson.

Things to take into account:
- your education
- your interests
- your experience
- your existing 'network'
- the local market now
- the outlook for the next 5 years
- the competitors
- the investment and the possible return on it

You have not told us if you are thinking of an online business or a brick and mortar business as its makes a big difference. Surely you must have some initial ideas of what you plan to do by now as you will not be able to get much useful information here if you are hoping for someone or everyone to think on your behalf. Kees B given you a standard guide but it is not going to be of much use to you if want in-depth advise from successful business owners because not many of them would even have the time to come in here to share their success stories.

You need a lawyer

You have to pay your taxes and reinvest in your business. A lot of people take the money out right away and they don't have any money to run their business. For example, a woman who delivers papers has to reinvest 1/3rd of $12,000 pay into her car for brakes, struts, etc., because the car will wear out from the job and there are always those unpredictable things that you have to pay for. Someone hit us and our deductible was $500 and we waited a year to get it back which means if your business needs insurance, someone has to cover accidents. Equipment can get lost, stolen or break. Sometimes in order to compete, you have to invest in new things.

Some businesses have to deal with broken things and the way they do that is to charge twice as much or four times as much. If you had a retail business, you have to understand that some items are coming back and that will come out of your profits.

You have to consult a lawyer and you need a book keeper. A book keeper will teach you how to keep your books.

We had to contact our township, pay $10 a year for a business license and they usually want to know where the business is located and what you are doing; in your basement, how many people come to your house, etc.

You might have to carry insurance. It all depends on what kind of business or work you are doing. Handymen now have to carry $50,000 insurance to work on people's houses in my state.

Some of my neighbors have businesses and they park their trucks on our street and it can really annoy people.

Don't extend credit to people from whom credit is due

Our boss only deals with companies anymore. We have individuals that don't pay us and our company feels like they can't trust individuals. There are some individuals that owe our company $3,000. Would your start up be able to handle a $3,000 debt or would it break your bank? You can't get money from someone that doesn't have it and you can't send threatening letters because that is harassment.

Another rule in business is not to extend credit to people whom credit is due from.

We use to buy $50,000 dollars worth of glassware from another company and they wouldn't sell it to us without doing a credit check every single time because companies are afraid of not getting paid. They actually wouldn't release the product until someone did a credit check which required cooperation from both companies.

Hi,
If you are really interested to start a business, first assess yourself. What exactly you are looking for? You want to do a business till the end of your life. You want a business to make some profit and quit. Analyse your target. Discuss with your near and dear.

I feel you should have a burning desire to start a business. That is, you shouldn't look for alternatives. Take a firm decision before going for a business. Imagine your business how it looks after 10 years.

These kind of home work you have to do before you start a business.

Of course, finally I will conclude with a last sentence. That is, if you want to do a business, first start with what you know much about.Say for example you are web designer, better start a business with web designing. It is the best solution, I believe.

regards

Before you start a business do some personal evaluation. It's good to know your strengths and weaknesses. This knowledge will definitely make you confident. Next, analyze the industry. Do some research to see if the market would be receptive to your product, and then go from there. The more knowledge you have before you start, the better.

Hi, starting a business is surprisingly simple--you just need to take the first step. It involves planning, making key financial decisions and completing a series of legal activities. When I started my business I have purchased some products such cash register, cash drawer etc from discounttillrolls.ie, which helps me a lot to save money not by investing it in other way, It has gained huge customer loyalty for me which is the basic thing in every business. Get your own ideas and implement it in your own way you will a good result from your business.

Hi to start any business you must consider basic points which starts with your interest, the area or field in which you can show your best, then analyse the scope of it, never forget about risk and always prepare risk management plan for future. Once the niche you would be selecting is decided do research on your competitors and learn their strategies. All the best.
