Looking for a simple software for video editing

Oct 12, 2009 5:20AM PDT

Hello to all!

Noob here, looking for something

I have some .avi files that I would like to merge together. Not only that, I would like to edit these files. Some of the video images recorded I would like to get rid of.

What is a simple software to edit and merge .avi files?

Thank you!

The simplest I know

is Virtualdub. It may be a bit old in the tooth, and there may be others, like Adobe Premier, but its primary purpose is editing and managing avi files.

Beware though, video editing is never easy. With avi's you will need to understand video and audio compression, and the right codecs to use.

Good luck.

Hi everyone,

I am looking for a simple, be it free or purchase, video software that will let me trim .avi video files. I only want to cut or trim specific timelines in order to crop unnecessary or embarrassing moments(For others).

I tried using Windows Movie Maker, but my 33.4MB .avi file gets saved only in the crappy WMV format and it reduces the file to 3.24MB..as well as the quality. And I had saved it to the "Small video Highest Quality" setting which kept the original's 320x240 dimensions. I wasn't too please with the results.

Any recommendations or tips (any other save setting in Windows Movie maker) is highly appreciated. Thanks

I am running Windows XP SP2
Intel Core 2 Duo 3.16Ghz
3.49GB of Ram.

Camera : Canon Elph SD 600. 6.0 megapixels
