Looking for a new portable CD Player very confusing with MP3

Aug 23, 2005 11:02AM PDT

I dropped my Panasonic CD player and needless to say it doesn't work anymore. Shopping for a new one is very confusing, I can't find any knowledgeable sales people in Electronic Departments or Electronic Stores. Everything I have looked at is marked MP3 and WMA. I don't download a lot of music but I have burned some CDs. The advantage of having a disc player as well as an MP3 would be great, but I primarily want a CD player. Could someone shed a little light on this subject for me thank you.

Depends...

If you drop them often then just buy another cheap Panasonic. They are the best value.

If you are going to be especially careful since you now know what happens when they get dropped, splurge and get an iRiver.

CD-mp3 players used to be the best value on the market by a mile but that distinction is shrinking fast. Lots of other options out there for $100 now. Personally I'd never go back to cd-mp3 unless I traveled a lot and needed the extra batter life. The flash players are just too small, too cheap, with too much storage to deal with anything as big as the cd-mp3 players.

Thank you for the information, yes I frequently drop my electronic appliances I have had to replace a few Irons , Curling Irons, those suckers break so easy.

CD/MP3 Players

Yeah I was looking at one at first and my opinion on the Cd/MP3 players are if you dont care about the bulky size, go for it. If you want portability go for a flash drive player, or hard-drive player if you can afford it. I mean a flash drive player can handle the abuse if you buy a good one. I had a creative nomad muvo nx and I kept it for two years. I got dirt all in the screen, dropped it plenty of times on concrete, and kept it in a gym bag sometimes. It can handle abuse. Just try a flash drive. The muvo tx is 65 for 256 mb, it is at wal-mart. I mean it will last.

Thank you for your reply, I will certainly look into it. You seem to know more than any salesperson I have asked. I have another question posted in this forum under Headphones help.I posted it on the 23 of Aug. If you know about good Headphones, would you please have a look at the question and post an answer if you know what I'm talking about,
Thank you again,
Gayle

I'd go with Shure/Sennheiser/Grado/Etymotic brand names. They have different styles to match any taste and all make excellent products.

If those are a bit pricey stick to Sony/Koss/Panasonic imo. They all make some models that are good/cheap headphones. Read the reviews carefully before purchashing a model however, because they also make some pretty mediocre headphones as well.

I am beginning to sound like a broken record, I have had some great advice from people like you.
This forum is the best place to learn a few things or two. For the most part I just have to read the posts of other people and I learn something new every time.
I wonder how many people know what a wealth of information there is here.
Can't say anything but Thank you.
