Looking For a New MP3 Player

Nov 24, 2005 4:08PM PST

Hi. I've owned my Archos Jukebox 20 for about 2.5 years now, and it's starting to fail. I'm looking around and there are so many new MP3 Players to choose from.

Here are some things I consider important:

-At least 20 gigs of storage space.
-The ability to drag-and-drop music onto my player (i.e., I won't have to install software).
-A cost of under $300.
-I don't want an iPod.

Any responses would be greatly appreciated.

Me too!

I too am looking for a new mp3 player and have been researching it for a bit now. I have been faithful to my clunky ole Archos Jukebox 6000 (5 years old and just now starting to have hiccups). The suggestions would mostly depend on what kind of capabilities you would like it to have: monchrome/color screen, capable of playing video? I personally have been so pleased with the lasting power of Archos that I am thinking about getting the Gmini 402, which at $237 (amazon.com) is cheaper than most color screen mp3 players out there and actually is a pvp since it plays movies, plus it holds 20gb, and accepts all formats. However, the Creative Zen Micro Photo is really cute as well, though it doesn't play video but is still a decent buy at $249. Hope this helps!

Cowon, Creative

the Cowon x5 plays video, fm, voice record, drag-and-drop, nice sound quality, but w/ no id3 tags

or Creative Zen Vision:M, it's the best player in the world, it does everything, video, photo, calender, fm, voice recording, task, 2.5 screen (though it's $330, but i bet you can get a discoung somewhere)

i have it, and had the same requirements as you did. you will, however, need software to make playlists, just as a warning.

the id3 tags arent that big of a deal. its basically just looking through your computer, just on a smaller screen.
