Resolved Question

Looking for a monitor

Jan 14, 2014 10:21PM PST

I am looking at purchasing a refurbished 24 inch monitor. Do not need a lot of bells and whistles. Prefer one with an adjustable stand. Which of the brands listed below do you either recommend or NOT recommend?
Acer
Asus
Dell
HP
LG
Samsung

This is like asking what gas station has better gas.

Each monitor maker has good and better displays. Then you want it refurbished so it's obvious to me that you won't have much choice as the refurb supply is too variable.

I have decided to go with a new monitor and probably will use my standby website (NewEgg) for my purchase. I have had nothing but great results when ordering from them. I found about 12 different monitors listed that fall within my budget or actually slightly outside of it. I know very little about monitors and this one is for my wife who currently is using a 10 year old 18 inch Philips CRT. So I guess, whatever I get will be an improvement with not only a wide screen but a digital signal using DVI or HDMI depending upon which monitor I get.

Earlier I mentioned using NewEgg but just before buying something from them, I saw an add for a new Dell 24" monitor at Office Max for $149. One of the major consideration was for a stand that had vertical adjustments because my wife was getting neck strain from looking up. It just so happened that in my basement I had an extra Dell stand that had a vertical adjustable stand. So I went to Office Max which is not very far from where I live and bought the monitor and did not use their not vertically adjustable stand but put my old used one on. My wife is quite happy with the arrangement. Now all I have to do is show her how to make maximum use of all that space (not an easy task by the way).
