Looking for a good registry cleaner

Mar 23, 2005 4:52AM PST

Hello, my Regvac trial has ended. I liked it a lot, but have no desire to pay $30 for the retail version.
I've "Googled" registry cleaners for a replacement, and can't seem to find what I want. What I'm hoping for is a good one that is free.

Before you call me cheap, let me tell you why. I'm tired of wasting money on software that doesn't deliver. $45 for NAV that really bogged down my PC. $30 for Gamedrive who claim they can run copy-protected games, and can't. $30 for Instant Copy with claims of getting past copy-protection, no dice. The list goes on.

Now that I've learned a lot more about PC's, I'm amazed at what I can do for free. When I get a new game, I immediatly find the no-cd crack, which allows the game to play without inserting the disc, no gamedrive needed. There are also plenty of free programs to make legal backups of games and DVD's. I use free picture file converters, .wav to MP3 converters, CD liner printing software, internet phone, karaoke, etc.

All my security is the same way. Zone Alarm, Spybot, Ad-aware, Spywareblaster, Popup Stopper Pro, Firefox, not a dime spent.

With all the free programs I'm running, I'd like to never spend another cent on utilities and security.

Back to my question. I was hoping some of you nice people can give me some of your recommendations on a decent registry cleaner. If not free, no more than $10.

Thanks!

You seem to be very good at finding free programs

I'm surprised you haven't found a free registry cleaner.

I believe most of the good ones do charge a fee. I know if I spent the time and effort making a good product, I wouldn't give it away free.

Tired of the blatant greed and deception
Mar 23, 2005 12:35PM PST

I have no problem with anyone trying to make a buck. I'm just tired of the outrageous prices and the deceptive practices involved with software.

Surely, if I wanted programs to design a skyscraper or assist me with surgery, I would expect to pay an optimum.
But if I pay the average $20-$60 for every little helper program, it would cost me upwards of a thousand dollars a year.

In my quest for a good registry cleaner I've been tricked into installing ones that state that they are free. They show all the bad entries, then ask for your credit card to fix them. They don't even give you the chance to fully test their product. Others will fix about 6 entries just to tease. I even found one that fully scanned and removed bad entries, including some important needed ones. I almost ended up reinstalling Windows.

Anyway, I was just asking if anyone has any recommendations for a good, (inexpensive) registry cleaner.

Thanks again!

That's It!

Dave, you're alright! It works great! I had to wait for the Missus' to get off Pogo to download it. Wow, exactly what I was looking for.
It was only about 15 minutes ago, and I can already see the difference. Web pages are even loading faster now.

It found about 300 bad entries, most are from all the games and game demos I've been installing and uninstalling.

Thanks Dave! I'm a local Guru, and look forward to using this program on every box I service.

Nice forum. "Ask and Ye shall receive!"
