Question

Looking for a gaming laptop

Feb 21, 2016 12:01PM PST

Hello, I'm looking for a new gaming laptop and have looked at quite a few models; I've always liked ( loved ) Alienware, purely because of their designs, but I am completely open to all suggestions ; my price range is anything from £1000-£2000, and I would preferably like a laptop with a 17inch screen plus. The one that I am looking at currently is an alienware 18 with GTX 765m sli, and i7 4700mq, 16gigs of ram, 1tb hdd, 128 gb ssd-would this be powerful enough for gaming?

Seems nice.

But it's a desktop bound laptop. These 17 and up models are not good for folk that are mobile as they tend to not stand up to daily travel.

My son who is a student went with this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01578ZKPO which runs all the latest titles.

Answer
I have an Alienware 18.

Mine has the GTX 760 SLI. Alienware stopped making the AW 18 for about 6 months as their 2015 models consisted of only the 13.3", 15" and 17.3" with the newer components. Then because of public demand they brought the AW 18 back but still with the 4th generation Intel processor. The smaller AW's nhave the 6th generation processor and the Nvidia 900 series DGP. They have the 17.3" at Best Buy and it has the new Ultra High Def screen. It's nice. The 18 will be the only one with the SLI graphics but the smaller ones will work with the new external graphics amplifier (which will allow you to stick a desktop DGP in it).

Hi, does your alienware 18 run pretty much all games well? Also, does it ever get really hot ( like over the top hot ) and do you find it really heavy ?

Also, what do you think would be more powerful ; amd r9 M290X crossfire ( dual ) or 765m sli ?

Thank you for your time !
