Looking for a digital replacement for my FM10

Nov 16, 2004 12:51PM PST

I have recently sold my Nikon Fm 10 film SLR and am now looking for a the best digital camera I can get for under $800. Is it worth my saving up a few hundred more for a digital SLR or not? What will give me both flexibility and solid quality image quality? What is the flat out best digital camera for under 800?

I suggest you get the December issue of PC World magazine. Look on page 164.

They have an article titled "Powerful Cameras for Serious Shooters".

They rate the top two as "best buys":

Canon G6
Olympus C-8080

Both are under $800 (the C-8080 just barely under).

If you are a Nikon fan, take a look at the 8400 and 8600 cameras.

That last line should read:

I have been shooting with my Minolta x700 for the last 16 years and had been waiting for Minolta to come out with a digital body for my Minolta leneses. ( so I wouldn't lose all the money I had in my leneses) But I finally brokedown and bought a Canon Digital EOS Rebel 300D and am still in awe of what I can do with it. As a former Nikon SLR shooter, buy a digital slr and I don't think you will be dissapointed if you want the same creative control. The Canon was $999 with $100 rebate so that looks like it maybe in your price range.
