Resolved Question

Looking for a CPU compatible with.....

Aug 15, 2013 9:26AM PDT

Is there a CPU that I can buy standalone that I can affix to my WinFast MCP61SM2MA-RS2? I bent the pins trying to install the old one back. It was an obsolete one anyway. I don't think I can straighten them, as I can't see them that well.

It's clear from the last day of searching that to find a AM2 processor with no more than 45W is nearly impossible. It's so obsolete it's like finding a new computer with Windows 3.1 on it. So....

Would it be possible to just put in a new motherboard into the existing case? All my HDs are SATA and could plug right in. I've been searching for that WinFast MCP61SM2MA-RS2H motherboard, but those aren't made anymore either. That computer was built in 2007, so by tech standards it's a dinosaur. I have no idea about replacing mobos.

I've got 2 new 4GB RAM sticks, and 2 good HDs that I would prefer to move over.

Thanks to everyone who's helped so far.

That's why I use the search for that.

Yeah I used the search for that too and, at the time, I didn't see any that were AM2 and equal to 45W.

about the ram

I had just bought it the day everything went south. I can still return it. When I was searching for motherboards and machines, I found that most machines were DDR3.

Exactly the point of the question

Based on price/performance, you're best bet for a future machine is one that uses DDR3.

Let us know how it works out.
