Question

Looking for a camera that charges via USB

Jan 4, 2012 10:08AM PST

I will be traveling in Central and South America and plan to buy a new camera before my trip. I have a solar charger to charge my iphone and would like to use it to charge my camera as well because I will be in remote places without electricity. The type of camera I'd like to get is something like the Canon PowerShot Elph 300 HS or Canon PowerShot SX230. Ideally, the price will not exceed $200. Suggestions? Does anyone know of an adapter for the normal battery charger that I could plug into my USB solar charger rather than getting a different camera? Thanks!

Do higher quality cameras that charge with USB exist?

The issue that I've come across is that many of the cameras I've found that charge with USB power are cameras of lesser quality. It seems like a lot of the cameras that charge with USB prioritize sharing options over quality photos, and the sharing aspect isn't an important feature to me. Do higher quality cameras that charge with USB exist?

You look at a candidate camera and see if it does that.
