Question

Looking for a budget tablet...is Nexus 7 2nd Gen enough?

Jan 24, 2015 1:57AM PST

Hi. I'm looking for a nice tablet around $100-$200... I want to use it mostly as an e-reader and as test platform for developing...I want to get into android. I Live outside of US, and I don't have a credit card to buy stuff online, so Online shopping is out of the question.

Anyway, on my quest I found :

LG G pad 8.3 (~US$250)
Nexus 7 2nd Gen (~US$200)
Asus Fonepad FE170 (~US$112)
Asus Fonepad FE375 (~US$190)

Among these 4, Nexus 7 is the most praised, I have tested it personally (a friend's), and is in my budget (~$200), but I'm afraid that it might not stood against the year...It's a 2013 tablet, and I'm going to use it in 2015. It seems to be the best option, though. I have no interest in phablets nor >8" tablets, so nexus 9 is not in my radar. (too pricey anyway).

Sorry for the long post, I'm just confused. so is the Nexus 7 still the best budget tablet for 2015?

The office does dev work.

And we have some Gen 1's that are great too. We tried a few other than Google tablets and found oddities that made development harder. So we removed all those from developer setups, and only pull those out for testing.

For dev work, a Gen 1 will do fine.

I'm sure gen 2 is better but for dev work, we have both and an army of other android things.

I have a Nexus 7 that I love.

Mine was made by Asus. I bought it some time early last year (2014) for $180. I don't remember what version of Android it came with, but about a month ago I upgraded it to 4.4.2. I see I could upgrade it to 4.4.3, but it's working just fine as is, so I'm practicing the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" rule. Mine has 2 GB RAM and 16 GB flash memory. I use my Windows 7 laptop most of the time, but if I'm out of the house for a while, I'll take the Nexus 7 for email, web browsing, and maybe a game of spider solitaire.

As far as I know Nexus 7 2nd Gen is one of the best tablet you can get for $200 and the performance is top notch.
I will say go Nexus 7 but the battery is not very good. Have a backup power bank ....

Hi, when i thought to buy tab and started to search, i was impressed with the Nexus. But it was not available in stock. So i bought micromax. Now it seems in some online sites Nexus is available purchase, try it. It's better to compare with other tabs.
