looking at new camera possibly Canon S5IS or PowerShot G9

Jun 18, 2008 11:32AM PDT

Wow, so many choices. All will be an improvement from my outdated Olympus 4.0 3X Zoom and Canon 35mm 115. I am looking to take pictures of grandkids playing sports (football, baseball, and soccer)
also indoor school programs and dance recitals. Any help is apprecited. When your in the store, according to the sales person they are all prefect cameras.
Thank you

from what you said

If sports is the big thing you're looking at doing with the camera then go with the S5IS. Now, the only sports it's going to be able to do is outdoors in good sunlight, but that's the case with any point and shoot. The G9 just will not have the reach that you would want for sports shooting.

Thank you for the info. I have been reading the posting for the last few days. I was looking at an Olympus. But, when shown the Canon I liked the menu on the screen. However my husband does not like the AA batteries. He likes the charger that comes with the G9.
Any other suggestions?
