Looking at HX1....what would be a pocketable companion?

Mar 20, 2010 10:54AM PDT

I am looking at getting the Sony HX1 as my megazoom camera primarily outside. What would be a good pocketable companion for every day? I've used both Canon and Kodak in the past and really love my Canon SD600, but want to upgrade. I tried out the Panasonic ZS3 because it is supposed to be the best compact zoom camera. However I really didn't like the feel of it. I didn't like how it sounded, or the menus. Maybe that is something I just need to learn to deal with.

What I am looking for: at least 4x zoom, the more the better. I don't do anything with video. I don't know how to use manual controls, but I am in the process of teaching myself. Budget is $400 of less. So what would you recommend as a pocketable everyday camera to compliment that HX1 that I'm hoping to get? I'd love to stick with Canon, but from what I've been reading I may need to broaden my horizons!
