Looking at buying a LCD TV! And need some advice. Thanks!!!!

by adamstetzel / January 30, 2009 11:25 AM PST

Hi guys,

My tube tv finally went out on me, and I am now in the market for a big screen lcd. I've done alot of research and for my budget I'm really looking at the 42" Vizio XVT with the 120hz refresh. Right now I can purchase one of these at Sams Club for $797. But after reading the CES 09 article it seems to me like Vizio is coming out with a newer XVT series that will be offering the 240hz refresh rate sometime this summer for $1099. What do you guys think I should do. Wait for the newer version or take the $797 deal? I'm kinda leaning toward not waiting just because it doesn't seem like there will be much of a visible difference, but just wanted more opinions on this. Thanks for all the replies in advance.

Personally I would not buy a Vizio, I would look at another brand. Vizio is what's called a tier 2 or tier 3 brand, meaning they cost less, but they don't manufacture their own sets. They are built cheaper so they often break down more often. They are one of the brands listed in an article called "Your Disposable Flat Panel TV". Basically the article states that if you have a problem after the first year you (the customer) has to pay for shipping to and from Vizio, By the time you pay for the carton, the shipping, the flat labor rate, the shipping back to you, you might as well buy a new tv. There's better out there for the money.
