THAT would be a sight.....
Sep 26, 2019 12:07PM PDT

that little girl behind the wheel of a HUMMER......She's a little bit bigger than a hood ornament.

I don't think she would accept it/use it UNLESS there was more 10 passengers in it. All that scrap metal to haul ONE person?.......NO WAY!!!!!!

She can't even enjoy her childhood for someone making her over concerned about the future. They aren't doing her any favors. It's the western world's way of using children as human shields, to accomplish their political agendas. She's just another brick in the wall, to them.

I think her autism-spectrum persona

will cause some misunderstandings. Look first at her communications at face value. Often that will be the most useful in understanding her.

Her views on the climate aren't derivative in spite of her age. Many people believe them, based on evidence they gather in their science. I haven't heard her claim special knowledge like that; she's a reporter.
Ask the folks on Vanuatu- while they're still above water.

She has one problem shared by many here. She does see that men are failing to solve the problems they caused, but still looks to men for solutions.

for the child's welfare, and other factors.

Author named, his credentials in the field listed, reasonable statements, relevance throughout and so on.

It has the best take on "haters" I've seen, showing the uselessness of hating to rational discussion. It does, of course, contribute to irrational discussion.

Hasn't anyone accused her of being a berserker? Big miss, if not.

It appears, this Andrew Bolt (your best source)
Sep 29, 2019 3:37AM PDT

Thinks that it's not only Greta that is suffering from hysteria...it's women in general...suffering from hysteria AND children NOT suffering from sexual abuse.

Andrew Bolt has been a longtime supporter of George Pell and continues to defend him despite the cardinal’s conviction for child sexual abuse.

In the Herald Sun Bolt said the “hysteria” of Thunberg – and women in general – was out of control.

PS...Is hysteria a one way way street? Greta is hysterical about climate change and Bolt isn't hysterical about her claims?

Do you know the "etymology" of the word?
Sep 29, 2019 12:45PM PDT

There's Doug's new "word of the day" from me to him. Wink

Hysterical comes from the root word "hyster", and old English word that means "womb". So, unless Bolt has a "womb", he can't be "hysterical". That's why when a women has her womb removed for some medical reason, it's called a "hysterectomy". It's also why when a women is "having a hissy fit", which in old English meant she was having a baby (hissy), it means she's carrying on about something more than she should, as if she's screaming or yelling, crying etc like someone giving birth.

RE: Do I know the "etymology"?
Sep 29, 2019 2:18PM PDT

Now I do.....At first I thought you were confused and talking about Entomology,,,,, the study of insects, but etymology is the study of words.

They sound similar and both end in -logy, which means "the study of," but don't mix them up unless you like completely confusing people.

You weren't "bugging" me were you?

Which 'new word'? ento/etymology?
Sep 29, 2019 4:16PM PDT

Easy enough mistake, done it myself. Takes plain memorizing, no easy clue to either. During my learning curve, I was spelling the word word entymology. Not worth mentioning IMO. No chance either way of missing the writer's intent.

Hysteria? Hayakawa pointed out the folly of "men can't be it" long ago. Where did the hysteresis curve of electricity get its name? Same source. Transformer layers can't have hissy fits.

Although they're often seen on SE.

Language is for communication. Once that's achieved, move on. You're free to share this with Just Plain Bill.
