Strange. Are you running these TVs 24/7 in un-ventilated spaces? Any power issues/surges in your home? It boggles my mind why *both* of those particular <high quality, mind you> plasmas would have already croaked. (FWIW, I still have a 5300 & 8500, and have had VT series too.)

The only short lived ones tended to be the cheaps. What about buying a longer warranty?

No one can tell you it will last. But why?

Electronics and almost anything made has a basic failure curve. That's why there are warranty systems. Let's read about The Bathtub Curve at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bathtub_curve

Basically that shows us that the first part of the lifetime curve is the most dangerous. So that's where warranties pay of the most. After that it settles down until later when age really affects it.

One area that wrecks the curve is high humidity areas. A set may do fine in the initial part and second part of the curve but corrosion and aging will shorten life span.

If you feel 2000 is not cheap, why buy 2000 dollar TVs? There are fine sets of good size at a quarter that price.
