coax will not run the hd from your hd box to any tv. You HAVE TO USE HDMI or Component to get HD or your just wasting your money. The Only time coax will carry HD in when your talking about antennas (OTA)
what is up with the cat-5's & the tv set-up??????
For the dvd player if it is an upscaling dvd player you have to use HDMI to get upscaling because of HDCP (google it). & what brand/model dvd player is it??? I have NEVER seen any dvd player with a coax port!!!
there are a few things you can do...
Wireless HDMI
SlingBox/Sling Catcher
or
just get a long HDMI/Component cable..

& make sure the A/V closet has good ventilation or everything will over heat
I have recently moved into a new house with the a.v equipment hdden in a closet about 40' from the tv. Between the two I have 5 coax cables and 2 cat 5 cables. I have tried to use the coax with f adapters as component cables from a motorola HD cable box to a Vizio HDTV, but when I do so I get poor video quality( horizontal lines scrolling up the screen) and a buzzing sound. I have used the coax with a dvd player in the same location and had no problem. I am lost, any help would be great
