Logon to other PCs in my network

Feb 8, 2004 9:10PM PST

I have a network setup at home with a Windows 98 PC, a Windows 2000,PC and a Mac G3. I've created a shared folder in all machines, and am able to browse these folder from the Windows 2000 and from the Mac G3.
When I try to log onto the Windows 2000 from my Windows 98 machine, a Network Password window comes up, it shows "\\XYZPC\IPC$" as a Resource name, and asks for the password. I enter the password I setup when I created the shared folder, and I get an error, saying it's the wrong password. I also tried the logon password for that machine, and nothing.
Am I missing something I need to add in front of the password? I added my username and \, but then it's too long.
I can't see the Mac G3 either, same network name. I do see the Windows 98 from the G3.
I'm puzzled. Please write me your suggestions.
Thanks

1. The IPC$ is the clue here that you have no account on the machine in question. http://www.wown.info/j_helmig/wxpwin9x.htm shows this screen.

2. As to the Macintosh, the war over such disparate systems has you becoming an expert to define how to share such a system.

Thank you, Bob. I'll keep trying the Mac connection as well. I am able to see both PCs from the Mac (running OS 10.2). I now need to see how I can access the Mac from the PCs.
