Logitech G5 mouse lag / freeze problem

Jun 1, 2010 2:23AM PDT

My mouse started occasionally freeze for a few seconds every 10 minutes or so. When it does freeze for a brief moment, the computer acts as if the USB is unplugged and replugged really fast (you can hear the plug & unplug sound). but the mouse light stayed on all the time.

This problem started AFTER i switched to a new mouse pad (steelseries). I did some research and someone mentioned it might be the response rate of the mouse. Since the new mouse pad provide much more define surface, the response rate for the mouse might overload the USB for a brief moment, which caused the problem. So I went and got the newest Set Point from logitech, and changed the response rate from the default 500hz to 125hz which is the default rate for standard USB connection. To some extend this reduced the number of freezes I get when NOT playing games. But when I play games (starcraft 2), it still freezes, and after it unfreezes, the speed is set to OS setting instead of Set Point setting. And the response rate is back to the default 500hz instead of 125. I have tried to rollback driver but it does not work.

Someone please help me to solve this. It seems to be a combination of software and hardware problem. I'm using windows 7. THANKS

The make, model of the PC is hiding (I can't find it) and not a word about if another mouse was tried.

I'm gonging this one with "try anothed mouse."

the reason I didn't mention my pc hardware is I didn't think it would be a factor in this case. As i said, the problem only occured after I switched to the new mousepad. The mouse itself works fine if I use plain paper as mouse pad. It's just the mouse pad which is causing this problem to occur. And no I don't think its a faulty mousepad either. The only thing I have not tried is buying another mouse and try it with the new mousepad. But that would be my final solution otherwise I wouldn't have posted on the forum asking for help.

That's great info. Try cleaning all the optics and such. Some mice hate some surfaces. This is not a driver issue.

G5 and SteelSeries Gaming Pad

I myself have the exact same mouse and gaming pad; I have never had a problem with mine, are you using the smooth or rough surface?
I have found that the laser works better on the rough side of the pad, no freezing experienced at all.

after talking to Logitech they determined that its because the mouse is to old to work correctly with windows 7. i have been having the same issue with using it on windows 7 64 bit but it works fin on my other machine. There is no support or fx for this. My mouse was 5 years out of warranty and they are still sending me a new one
